Pisa is not a difficult city to travel around and the centre is fairly compact.  Public transport is available, in the form of buses, although the majority of attractions in central Pisa and around the Field of Miracles (Campo dei Miracoli) are really only just a short walk away from each other, 30 minutes at the most.

If you have chosen to rent a car in Pisa, then the whole of Tuscany is at your doorstep.

Alternatively, rail transport runs to top cities such as Florence, which is a major tourist destination and steeped in Tuscan history.  For short journeys around the city, taxis are on hand, but are not cheap.

Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport is extremely close to the city centre and lies just 2 km / 1.5 miles to the south, and is also within reach of Florence and other prominent Tuscan cities and towns.  Therefore, its extreme proximity means that it is easy to travel to and from the airport by using either taxis or bus transport.  Buses (line no. 3) tends to run into the city centre every 15 minutes and this is the cheapest way to travel to your hotel, although there is dedicated coach transport available, solely for the use of Ryanair passengers.  Other notable airlines flying into Pisa include  Air France, Alitalia, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, easyJet, Jet2.com, Thomsonfly and TUIfly.

Pisa Transport: Driving Around by Car - Pisa, Italy

Pisa Transport: Travel by Train - Pisa, Italy
Railway transport connects Pisa with many Italian cities.  Visitors regularly travel from Pisa to destinations across the country, such as Florence (one and a half hours), Lucca (30 minutes), Rome (three hours) and Siena (one hour and 40 minutes).  Due to their closeness, Florence, Lucca and Siena all tend to be extremely popular day trips and trains to these appealing cities run from both Pisa Central Station and from the smaller San Rossore Station.

Buses travel all over Pisa and run to the train station, as well as to the Field of Miracles, where the Leaning Tower awaits.  You can purchase your bus tickets at a variety of outlets and these include the the Galileo Galilei Airport, the train station, tobacco shops, and also at the bus stops themselves.  Travelling on buses is an extremely cheap way to get around and the most direct bus lines running to the Field of Miracles are numbers 1,3 and also number 11.
